Spread the Magic: Hampton Roads’ Book Drives for Kids
As a parent and educator, I’m leading an effort to collect gently used children’s books and create home libraries for our community’s youth in need. My goal is to foster a passion for reading across Hampton Roads by getting books directly into the hands of kids who lack resources.
Studies Show Home Libraries Boost Literacy
Research demonstrates that access to books in the home improves childhood literacy skills and academic outcomes. With many local families lacking reading materials, book drives help close this gap.
Join Our Book Fairy Mission
Join the Hampton Roads book fairy team! I need volunteers willing to host a children’s book donation bin for 2 weeks. I’ll provide bins and signs, if you can help spread the word and generate donations. Ask your kids to pick gently used books they’ve outgrown to share the gift of reading.
Together, we can get more books to youth in need across our community. Please contact me anytime if you’re able to participate in a book drive! I’ll handle delivering bins to your location and picking up all donated books. Then, I’ll distribute your generous donations directly to kids. By joining forces as book fairies, we can empower local children through the gift of literacy.
Can’t host a drive? I’ll gladly pick up your used book donations.
If hosting a full book drive is not feasible, you can still participate in this literacy mission. If you have any gently used children’s or young adult books at home that you would like to donate, please feel free to contact me using the message form at the bottom of this post. I would be happy to pick up the books from your home, or meet you at a central Hampton Roads location for drop off. Even a small number of donated books can make a big difference to underserved youth in our community. I appreciate any support you can provide to help get books into the hands of kids who need them!
