October isn’t just about Halloween; it’s a treasure trove of wacky holidays and celebrations waiting to be explored! As a dedicated children’s librarian and literacy advocate, I’ve brewed up a special collection of books that should delight your kiddos throughout the entire month.

From whimsical national food days like Dessert Day and Cookbook Launch Day to meaningful celebrations such as Indigenous People’s Day, this carefully curated list offers captivating reads for every occasion.

Not only will you find tales of zombies, witches, and ghosts for Halloween fun, but I also included heartwarming stories of gratitude, forgiveness, and standing up to bullies. What’s more, when you choose to purchase from my recommendations, you’re not just enriching your child’s reading experience; you’re helping provide home libraries for underserved children. So, gather the family, brew some apple cider, and carve out precious family reading time. Let’s embark on a journey of literary magic throughout all 31 days of October!

Update

Dear readers,

With heavy hearts, our attention is drawn to the pressing conflicts and humanitarian crises unfolding in Palestine and Israel. In light of current tragedies, I feel called to pause my originally planned content this October and instead share stories from Palestinians and Israelis.

My hope is that by uplifting these diverse voices through impactful children’s books, we can spread empathy and understanding on all sides. Stories have such power to open hearts, bridge divides, and lead us to justice and peace.

I appreciate you joining me as I share Palestinian and Israeli stories that highlight their cultures and experiences.

While these stories hold sadness, my prayer is that they ultimately affirm our shared humanity and interconnectedness. May we persist in seeking justice, while also finding moments of joy and magic – especially with our little ones.

Thank you for being part of this community and journeying with me towards greater wisdom and compassion. Wishing you light and peace today.
